Dear Parents and Families,
Here
at the Open School we are always looking for ways to improve our sense of
community. We feel that when kids are
backed by a supportive community, they have so many more opportunities to excel
personally, socially, and intellectually.
We also believe that this community can exist outside of the school day.
I
am proposing, along with the help of our school’s Instructional Coach Scott
Murphy, that we form an IA community forum in which we can come together and
talk about how we can raise the level of our students learning both inside the
school day and out. We are asking that
parents and supporters of kids in our advising group join us for an evening on
Tuesday October 29th at 6 in the evening. We will use this time to establish a
collaborative partnership, in which we can share ways that we can support each
other and develop within the community, an explicit focus for our students’
intellectual growth. We will continue to
deeply honor their social and emotional growth, but we want to find new and
more focused ways that we can impact the intellectual lives of our kids. We are
approaching this idea as an inquiry study with the essential question of “how
far can these kids go, with an accelerated support system both at home and at
school?”
The
purpose of this letter is to open a communication with you and to give you an
advanced notice of the time we have scheduled to meet. We understand that schedules can be difficult
to accommodate for after school activities, but we feel that the more
participation we can get with this group, the more effective we can be for the
kids. If you have any questions prior to
our fall conferences, please feel free to contact me via e-mail at pwigand@jeffco.k12.co.us. Thank you and I hope that you can be a part
of our new expanded community.
Sincerely,
Per Wigand
